Raphael Huber from Switzerland is behind SubConsciousMind or short SCM.
In 1997, with no musical or technical experience and having no one to
ask, he started to teach himself everything he needed to know by simply
tweaking till it sounded like music. Since then he has performed live
internationally, released two and a half albums and carefully developed
his own edgy and characteristic style.
Q: Why do you make your music?
A: Do you know it when you have feeling inside you, but you don't know
what to do with it? When something is bothering you deep inside and you
don't know what it is? Or you are stuck in a certain emotional state
and can't go on but you don't know why?
Well, I know this very well. And when this happens I write music which
helps me. Music to support me with inner processes. Music that helps me
to go deep inside me and solves my problems.
Q: What is important for you in your music?
A: My way is not to deliver perfect music, but music with rough edges
and personality. I put most of my energy and precision into clever
songwriting, fluent, subtle, meaningful arangements, original
sounddesign, shiverfactor and exact expression of emotions. SCM music
is rough but still subtle, intense but still unintrusive, emotional but
still earth connected.
Q: To which genre does your music belong?
A: My style is probably best described as some kind of "psychedelic
trance" or "psytrance". I'm really taking this literally and try to
create a trance which has a psychedelic effect on the listener. I don't
really care about the style though.
